This award is all about recognising carbon reduction, whether in a new building or in retrofit. Design and technology should both be part of the application mix.

This new award seeks to recognise the key role of the building occupant in the operation of a building and so looks to reward projects which have had the user of residential, commercial or public buildings front and centre of their thinking. Judges will be looking for excellence in design; in application of building services; and, where appropriate, engagement with the occupants. Demonstration of the success of the building in operation, such as in use of monitoring, data and ongoing assessment and feedback, is especially welcome.

Credit will also be given for additional benefits, such as design and reduced noise, alongside those all-important energy improvements.
